1.2 Statement of Problem
The majority of previous studies have concentrated on a more effective use of conventional methods of teaching chemistry, very few have been able to relate the significance of other resourceful materials in teaching and learning chemistry. Again most of these studies have focused on the application of laboratory facilities in teaching the subject itself, in other words dwelling much on the advantages it has on teachers being able to teach students the subject very well rather than its impact on the student’s as well. As a consequence, previous studies in this area have failed to contribute to a theoretical understanding of how other resourceful materials like computer aided learning (CAL), use of instructional materials e.g the periodic table can enhance student’s comprehension and likewise improve their academic performance. For this reason, the researcher highlights, in this study, a survey of resources for teaching and learning chemistry in senior secondary schools in Obio/Apkor LGA of Rivers state with specific reference to assessing the extent at which the availability of these resources in secondary schools in Obio/Akpor LGA are imperative for teaching and learning chemistry, hoping that the findings would take part in an effective realization of the implementation of trending chemistry resources for not only the teaching process but learning process as well.
