This material unravels the potentials and challenges of indigenous entrepreneurs in rivers state. There are huge potentials for Rivers state entrepreneurs hence they also encounter enormous challenge but not all entrepreneurs within the state faces similar challenges. Indigenous entrepreneurs go through peculiar problems that those in the conventional business sector do not, and the issues with small business owners in the state differ, owning to factors that are unique to Indigenous entrepreneurs. These problems, was discovered to be as a result of high rate of insecurity, unemployment, lack of basic infrastructural facilities and poor performance of business owners in the state. Henceforth, the research questions dealt with the level to which inadequate financing, poor social infrastructures, lack of managerial skills and various taxation constitute key problems even in the face of huge potentials due to numerous natural and human resources. It is presumed that good governance intervention via the provision of access to funding, social infrastructures and complimentary taxation policies will reverse the trend and serves as key potentials for indigenous Rivers State entrepreneurs. The method applied for this work is descriptive research design using 230 randomly selected registered operators of indigenous entrepreneurs in Rivers State. Collected raw information was critically analyzed via descriptive statistics perhaps formulated hypotheses were tested through the application of z-test. Results from the data analysis indicated that deprived funding, insufficient social infrastructures, deficiencies in managerial skills and triple taxation were major challenges militating against indigenous entrepreneurs in Rivers State. Hence, we recommend the provision of soft loans business owners, government ensuring of adequate security of lives and properties and also guaranteeing of long-term loans, establishment of funding organization, university/industry and government sector partnership in infrastructural provision, human capacity building, and tax free holidays to indigenous entrepreneurs in Rivers State.
